Video Instructions
Read the information below to help you prepare for your school's production day.
What to Expect on Filming Day
-
I will arrive at appointment time (8am) and check in with the office / point person (usually the Principal)
-
Unless otherwise arranged, there will be one videographer
-
I will go over the filming schedule with the point person - 10 minutes
-
Usually this means talking through the schedule and making sure there is enough variety of shots: Both Action Shots and Interviews
-
Action Shots: Textbook work, group work, math, ELA, phonics, discovery stations, reading, PE, playground, library, gym, sports, weight room, cafeteria, aerial drone shots of campus, etc
-
Interviews: Teachers, Students, Staff, Principal (not all are required)
-
The minimum needed for interviews are as follows:
-
Intro (Principal) "Welcome to ___________. Home of the (mascot)!
-
Outro (Principal) "Thanks for checking out __________. Enrollment is open now, click the link below or call the office to learn more."
-
Additionally, Principals can share any additional aspects that they are proud of: Accomplishments, values, mission, vision, theme, etc.
-
3-8 Teachers each answering at least 2 of the following questions:
-
What do you love about being a teacher?
-
What do you love about teaching here at ________?
-
What is something positive you've heard from a parent about their child's education here at ________?
-
What puts a smile on your face when you think about coming to teach?
-
Teacher answers will be short: one or two sentences each and include the question in the answer
-
Example: "What I love about teaching at _________ is the support I feel from both the staff and students, it feels like a family."
-
Additional interview questions can be added by the point person / Principal that share more about the mission/vision/values of the school
-
-
I will then gather all the necessary equipment from my vehicle and set up for filming (10 minutes)
-
All production equipment will be on a production cart on wheels that fits through standard sized doors
-
The point person will then accompany me (videographer) around to each classroom / location I will be filming at for the duration of the filming day
-
Upon entering each class/location I will ask the teacher "What are you currently working on?" and "Did you have something different or additional you'd like to showcase on video?"
-
If there are certain students who don't have a district media release form signed (the generic one from enrollment), we will identify them and possibly have them sit at a table close to the classroom door
-
Each lesson or activity will only take 3-5 minutes to film
-
The Teacher interview will take approximately 5 total minutes (3 min to set up lighting, 2 min to film)
-
A small microphone will be clipped to a teacher's lanyard or attached via magnet to their top
-
Total classroom time will be 15 minutes maximum
-
We will need a minimum of 8 locations or lessons/activities to complete the film (see action shot examples above for reference)
-
We can film the intro/outro with the Principal / Point Person at any point there is a 5 minute break in the schedule
-
This entire filming process will take 2 - 3.5 hours total based on chosen locations and campus size
After Filming Day
-
1-4 weeks after filming day an edited video will be sent to the district and point person for review
-
Once the video is approved or edits are made, the final video will be made available via Dropbox for download and use
